Programme Manager

About the Role:

 

This role will allow the successful candidate to play a key role in the development of the alternative protein sector in the UK, working closely with the APA President, APA Board members, companies and a host of stakeholders across the UK, including policy makers, government, and academic. Specifically, the successful individual will:

 

  • Manage a trade association of 30+ member companies of the APA and growing membership in line with APA’s growth ambitions.

  • Manage and execute on the strategic goals of the APA as agreed by the President of APA, the Board and APA members.

  • Liaise and build partnerships between APA, members and other stakeholders, including the public, policy makers, regulators, academia and the wider ecosystem

  • Act as a representative of the APA in the alternative protein ecosystem in the UK, including at conferences, working groups and other events.

  • Manage and work with APA’s ecosystem of specialist consultants on public policy and regulatory matters, as well as broader Government relations and communications.

  • Serve as the first point of contact for current and prospective APA members, outlining the benefits of membership; managing member contracts and invoicing with the support of the Finance team

  • Organise APA events, webinars, working groups on specific topics and themes, reflecting APA priorities

 

The successful candidate will have some or all of the following experience and qualifications:

 

  • Interest and experience working in the alternative protein sector either at a company, scientific or academic position, or other adjacent industry

  • Relevant experience running a trade or members’ association and/or ability to demonstrate strong external stakeholder management skills

  • Understanding of the UK regulatory landscape for novel foods is desirable

  • Understanding of the success factors, risks and opportunities for SMEs in the UK is desirable

 

Essential Experience

​

  • Alternative Proteins: You will be passionate about the sector and ideally have a strong existing network of contacts in alternative proteins (or have experience in building networks in other areas that you can bring to the role along with your passion).

  • Stakeholder management: You thrive at building relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders and can evidence previous success in this area. You are both personable and professional and have worked on projects before where working with external organisations was central to its success. 

  • Project management: You’ve successfully either led or worked in a team on several projects, delivering high quality projects to deadline, able to both do the work yourself, and effectively manage others to deliver.

 

Desired Experience

 

  • Work in food systems/sustainability/environmental sectors: You have relevant adjacent experience and this could come from working in any of the following fields: sustainable food systems, climate change, animal agriculture, alternative proteins. 

  • Event Production: You have produced online and in-person events, including event design, planning, logistics, and facilitation.

  • Ambitious self-starter: You are motivated to get things done and will do whatever is needed. Your ideas will be extremely important in our growth. You are also highly learning orientated and able to develop new skills.
